Bicocca Choir
The Choir

The Choir of the University of Milano-Bicocca has about thirty members including students, University teaching and administrative staff and external members, who share a passion for music and singing.

Bicocca Choir

The Choir performs at the University's institutional events and in concerts organized by external bodies. It goes on tours as part of cultural exchange programs with Italian and European universities and participates in international festivals of choral music, offering a varied repertoire that includes classical and popular music.

It was founded in 2002, and led until 2012 by Maestro Ilario Nicotra, a well-known Milanese pianist and teacher.
Since 2012 the choir has been conducted by Maestro Alessandra Zinni.

The Bicorchestra

The Amateur Bicocca Orchestra was founded in January 2009, under the patronage of the Rector and on the initiative of students and teachers.

The Bicorchestra is divided into two sections: baroque and jazz.

The main concerts held by the instrumental groups of Bicocca during the season 2012/2013 were:

Christmas 2012, Auditorium U12: the Guitar Ensemble performed traditional and classical music(Schubert, Brahms); the Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Mugnai, performed baroque arias and the Vivaldi concerto "La Notte" for flute and orchestra and the Concerto grosso by Corelli for Christmas Eve.

Easter, 2013, Auditorium U12: choral music and some arias from Bach's St. John’s Passion: conductor Alessandra Zinni

27 May 2013, Villa Forno, Cinisello. The Bicorchestra Baroque, under the direction of Matthias Mugnai, performed Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor for two violins and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no. 4.

11 June 2013, Auditorium U12: The ensemble of guitars, under the direction of Marco Pisoni, performed traditional music and an excerpt from Vivaldi's La Follia. The jazz orchestra, under the conductorship of Giovanni Falzone, performed brandi standards and music written by Falzone himself.

The activities of the two orchestras will resume in mid-September 2013: there will be a weekly rehearsal, from 17 to 19.30 (the place and dates will be announced later)

Anyone who would like to join the choir or the orchestral groups in Bicocca may send an e-mail to Prof. Alberto Maffi (alberto.maffi @

The Guitar Ensemble

The ensemble, coordinated and conducted by Maestro Marco Pisoni, is open to guitarists and lovers of classical and acoustic guitar who want to meet and play together.

The initial experiences, in the spring of 2012, led to the public debut of a group of about 20 players. Several concerts are planned in the future when the ensemble will present a program ranging from classical music adapted for guitars, to numerous traditional folk genres, and pop.

Rehearsals are open to those who have just started with the instrument and include an exercise program of technical exercises in parallel with the ensemble playing.

Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 17.30 to 19.30, in building U6 (Room 7).

Anyone interested can come at about 18.30 for an interview during the rehearsals or contact the Director via e-mail.
